Image alt text checker

Every image,
described.

Paste your page HTML and instantly see which images have good alt text, which are empty or duplicated, and which are missing it entirely, for accessibility and image search.

Paste your page HTML (or just the <img> tags). View source with Ctrl+U, copy, and paste.

This checks the alt attributes in the HTML you paste, entirely in your browser. It flags missing, empty, and duplicated alt text; whether an empty alt is correct depends on whether the image is decorative.

Questions

Good to
know.

What makes good image alt text?

Describe what the image shows and its purpose, in a short, specific phrase: “Technician installing a water heater,” not “image1.jpg” or “water heater plumbing repair service Buffalo MN.” Keep it natural, skip “image of,” and leave alt empty (alt="") only for purely decorative images so screen readers can ignore them. Every meaningful image should have a unique, honest description.

Why does alt text matter for SEO?

Two reasons: accessibility and image search. Screen-reader users rely on alt text to know what an image conveys, and Google uses it to understand and rank images in Google Images. Missing or duplicated alt text is a common, easy-to-fix issue. This checker flags every image so you can see exactly what needs attention.
